What we store, what we delete, and what we can read

Last updated: August 2026

If you are still serving, you already think about what you put online. This page says plainly what happens to your messages and your service record here — so the claims on the homepage are checkable rather than reassuring noise.

Your messages

Conversations are end-to-end encrypted. Messages are encrypted on your device and decrypted on your match's device. We hold the ciphertext, not the key — which is why we say we cannot read your messages. It is a statement about what is technically possible for us, not a promise about our intentions.

One consequence worth knowing: because we cannot read your messages, we cannot recover them for you either. If you lose access to your account, that history is gone.

Your DD214

Uploading a DD214 is optional. If you choose it, here is the exact lifecycle:

On upload
Encrypted immediately in transit and at rest.
Review
Read by a trained reviewer, normally within 48 hours, to confirm service.
After verification
Permanently deleted. We keep the badge, not the document.
What we retain
That you are verified, and the branch you served in. Not the file.

If you would rather upload nothing at all, verify with your .mil email instead. We send a 6-digit code, you enter it, the badge activates, and no document ever exists on our side.

What we never do

Identity verification for everyone

Service verification is optional, but identity checks are not limited to veterans: every member is identity-checked before they can participate. That is the part that addresses catfishing and romance scams, which is a distinct problem from confirming someone served.

Payments

Card details never touch our servers. Payments are processed by CCBill, a dedicated payment provider, and we receive only the subscription status.

Reporting a security issue

If you find a vulnerability, email support@devotionaftervictory.com with the details. We will confirm receipt and keep you updated on the fix.
